Free mailing list? Well, that's the first I've heard...
There's this thing called the safelist though where you sign up and send your ad to one another because everyone just signs up and send their ads. So who's reading them? I leave that answer to you.
Then there's another which is some newsletter/ezines offer their subscribers an option to send in their ad to their mailing list in their next mailing issue.
But if you are really seeking for free mailing list, I would suggest you to set up your own. Because it will be yours to keep and will be free for you. Well, maybe just the autoresponder cost though.
